Tidbit Tuesday

A Barefoot Run in NEW YORK CITY

I am so jealous of this event!  I would love to be spend the weekend with a group of like minded people who run barefoot (or in minimalist shoes). It is educational and social with (FREE!) clinics and workshops by barefoot Greats like Barefoot Ted, Erwan Le Corre of MovNat, Jason Robillard of Barefoot Running University and Dr Dan Lieberman (Professor of Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University).
One of the great things about this run is that it in the format of “run your distance.”  Everybody will start running at 8.30am and run around Governers Island (3.3km) as many times as they can. In this way, the runner is encouraged to listen to their body in order to decide when it is time to stop, this avoids injury and keeps the fun element. The race will end at 10am.
I am hopeful that in the not-to-distant-future, there will be enough barefoot/minimalist runners to host a race like this in Johannesburg.

I saw this on some runner's blog and actually thought about how far SA is from having something like this. Well, who knows, maybe we get a surprise... I hope your knee is ok. See you on the road sometime!
